Laurel is the Managing Director of the Law Corporation and heads the Intellectual Property Department. She advise on contentious and non-contentious IP matters (e.g. Trade Mark, Copyright and Designs Infringement actions, seizure of Counterfeit Goods and instituting prosecution action) and other matters relating to breach of confidence, usurpation of trade secrets, theft of technical know-how and brand names, misrepresentation, passing off, anti-competition disputes and defamation.
She advises on local and global trade mark registration (via the Madrid Protocol) and also direct filings into various foreign countries to help clients preserve their brand presence in Singapore and worldwide.
She assists clients with their design registrations into various countries and manages their Intellectual Property Portfolio with pertinent advice on IP commercialisation strategies to enhance Brand value and monetizing their IPs.
Laurel is an accredited SCOPE IP consultant for the SCOPE IP Programme of the Intellectual Property Office Of Singapore and had assisted SMEs to enhance their IP Capability Development and IP Portfolio growth via various SPRING Singapore programs including the Innovation & Capability Voucher Scheme and Capability Development Grant.
She focuses on helping new start-ups to develop, protect and manage their IP Portfolio with the aim to increase brand presence and revenue growth. She assesses SMEs internal IP framework and processes and structure IP capability development strategies to build on existing IPs for commercialisation.
As a Singapore Registered Patent Agent, Laurel advise on the patentability of inventions, patent protection and registration in Singapore and other key markets via the PCT Registration and/or direct filing into Non-PCT countries. She handles clients’ pre and post registration transfers and renewals.
She represents clients in the negotiation of contracts including commercial and IP contracts such as Sale & Purchase of IP Assets, Assignment of Patents, Transfer of Technology, Copyright protection, Franchising, Licensing, Collaboration Agreements, Joint Ventures, Distributorships, Supply Agreements, Agency Agreements, Sale & Purchase of Shares, Web-site and portal development and IT hosting agreements, Telecommunications services, Consultancy, Employment, Confidentiality & Non-Disclosure Agreements and various Software & End-User Service Level agreements.
Laurel is a member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (Singapore Group) and works closely with a good network of foreign associates worldwide in the protection of clients’ Intellectual Property rights.
Benjamin is an External Associate to the Law Corporation.
He has corporate and commercial legal experience that spans over 23 years, involving various aspects of corporate and commercial work in legal practice, as in-house legal counsel in various US, Japanese and Taiwanese MNCs; as investment banker in a local bank and investment manager with a Japanese conglomerate with investment mandate over the ASEAN region.
Benjamin’s ACCA Professional Degree in Accounting and Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property has enabled him to value-add and conceptualise clients’ problems differently, helping them to think out of the box and provide effective solutions to their problems.
He has experience in establishing greenfield manufacturing projects in Singapore and in South East Asia region.
Benjamin guides new start-up companies, help set up offices in Singapore and regional countries and assist with regulatory matters such as tax and human resource matters, investment and divestment of businesses by multi-national companies and structures tax-efficient commercial transactions to cater to specific needs and interests.
He has experience with corporate and commercial matters and provides relevant guidance on merger and acquisitions transactions, pre & post joint venture partnerships, sale and purchase of businesses, shareholders’ and directors’ rights and duties and general corporate secretarial work, corporate restructuring and corporate due diligence.
Jeevan is a Director in the Litigation Department of the Law Corporation.
He has wide experience in litigation and his main focus is in Corporate and Commercial litigation. Jeevan’s areas of practice include employment law, landlord and tenant disputes, contested probate actions, family law and criminal law.
He also handles partnership disputes, shareholder disputes, disputes between parties in joint ventures. Jeevan’s family practice includes divorce, personal protection orders, maintenance and adoption. He has acted for high net worth clients in acrimonious divorce proceedings and successfully protected their interests and assets.
He has also represented clients for personal injury and death claims arising from road traffic accidents and work place injuries. He has been appointed to a panel of lawyers by a large motor insurer to represent them in proceedings in the State Courts and High Court.
In his criminal practice, Jeevan has successfully acted for clients charged with a variety of offences such as criminal intimidation, outrage of modesty, causing death by negligence and criminal breach of trust.
